Constitution

NAME

The name shall be Society for Coloured Lens Prescribers (SCLP) or such other name as the majority of Members shall agree.

OBJECTS

The objects of SCLP shall be to promote evidence-based provision of coloured lenses by:

  1. Maintaining a published list of Members of SCLP. Members shall be clinically qualified practitioners (optometrists or orthoptists) who agree to abide by the Code of Conduct specified and published by the SCLP on their web site: www.s4cp.org
  2. Ensuring the public availability of the list, and publicizing this availability where appropriate.
  3. Maintaining a published list of courses that offer training appropriate for the provisions of the Code of Conduct.

MEMBERSHIP

  1. Membership of the SCLP is available without charge to eyecare practitioners who agree to abide by the Code of Conduct. Members are entitled to be listed on the Membership list publicized by the SCLP.
  2. The SCLP Committee shall have power to decline an application for Membership, or to expel an individual Member, if the provisions specified in the Code of Conduct are not met. The reason for the refusal of, or expulsion from, Membership shall be communicated to the individual concerned or to the body corporate or incorporate represented by that person. An aggrieved applicant or Member shall have a right of appeal to the Committee of the SCLP, in which case the full Committee will review the initial decision and the individual concerned will be informed in detail as to the reasons for rejection or expulsion.

GOVERNANCE

  1. The current founding members of SCLP Committee shall constitute its governing Committee and all business of SCLP shall be conducted exclusively by the Committee or by other persons appointed on its behalf.
  2. The Committee may appoint sub-committees and may designate Members to fulfill special purposes as and when it may decide. Such sub-committees and designated Members shall operate only as determined by the Committee.
  3. The Committee shall consist of no more than 6 people and shall include a Chairman, and a Secretary, to be known as Officers. The Officers may be elected annually in October by the Membership.
  4. Current Members of the committee may continue to hold office indefinitely until nominations for election of the Officers are received. These nominations may be submitted by email to the Secretary in the month of October and must by accompanied by a statement of consent from the nominee. If nominations are received, the Membership shall be circulated (including a one page election address by the applicant) and a vote taken by email with the candidate or candidates with the most votes being elected on to the Committee. It is anticipated that, when the Society has grown to a suitable size (c. 100 members), then there will be an annual meeting at which Officers can be elected.
  5. If an Officer retires, the Committee may appoint a replacement from among the Members after consultation and the seeking of nominations from Members.
  6. The Members shall have the right request a revision of the Code of Conduct or the Constitution, or to change a committee decision. Provided a proposal for change is received from at least 5 Members, the proposal will be circulated to all Members by email, and all Members shall be entitled to vote on the proposal. The vote shall be organized by email. A two-thirds majority of the Membership is required to change the Code of Conduct or the Constitution. A simple majority is necessary for other changes.

FINANCE

The SCLP is a voluntary body. Membership is free and Officers are unpaid volunteers.
